“It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it was a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man can store up in his ghostly heart.”
1. This line is showing that Gatsby went over his head to have Daisy fall in love with him again. He was creating stories, lies and telling them to other people living in a world based on his imagination. Nobody knew what was true about Gatsby and what was not he was a mystery. He was a mystery to outsiders and himself. All just to have Daisy back in his arms his effort seemed rather extraordinary.
2. Gatsby was passionate about whatever he would do. The parties he would host, he would not be seen leaving “Gatsby” a mystery and questions being failed to be asked. None was concerned about who he was they preferred to enjoy the party while they could. Gatsby would enlighten his life with his own colours to bring himself joy. He grasped any opportunity that came his way.
3. Gatsbys heart is hurt without the reality of having Daisy by his side. He consumes his life with stories and wealth all to hide the truth he will not face. The 5 years since he had been with Daisy were his new life. Gatsby lets people think incredible things about him, things he claims he has fulfilled his life doing. Little do they know his life has been spent figuring out his way to get his true love Daisy back and on the way to doing this he has created a world of illusion resulting in it being a dream he cannot wake up out of.
