Fitzgerald shows a variety of people who came to Gatsbys house during the summer at the beginning of the chapter. Proving that well known people turned up to Gatsbys parties. All these names create a character. His life is fake because his guests no nothing about him and he knows nothing about them. Fitzgerald proves that Gatsbys life is lonely and empty and he lives in an illusion of a rich popular life.
